End of Support: Nắm bắt cơ hội để “đồng điệu” hệ sinh thái ứng dụng

Azure AI Content Safety is now available in preview, but extra features are also coming for Designer and Bing.

As different experts, ethicists, and even the government push for increased safety in the development and use of artificial intelligence tools, Microsoft took to the Build stage to announce new measures for AI content safety.

Included in a series of updates aiming for responsible AI, Microsoft launched Azure AI Content Safety, currently in a preview stage, as well as other measures such as media provenance capabilities for its AI tools, like Designer and Bing.

Microsoft Designer and the Bing Image Creator will both give users the ability to determine whether an image or video was AI-generated, through upcoming media origin updates. This will be achieved through cryptographic methods that will be able to flag AI-generated media using metadata about its creation.

During the Microsoft Build developer conference, the company also announced easier, more streamlined ways to develop copilots and plugins on its platform. Sarah Bird, a partner group product manager at Microsoft, leads responsible AI for foundational technologies.

Bird explained that developers carry the responsibility of ensuring these tools render accurate, intended results and not biased, sexist, racist, hateful, or violent prompts.

“It’s the safety system powering GitHub Copilot, it’s part of the safety system that’s powering the new Bing. We’re now launching it as a product that third-party customers can use,” said Bird.

The responsible development of artificial intelligence is a big topic for tech companies. Dr. Vishal Sikka, CEO of Vianai Systems, a high-performance machine learning company, explains there is an urgent need for AI systems that are safe, reliable, and amplify our humanity.

“Ensuring humans are centered in the development, implementation, and use of AI tools paired with a robust framework for monitoring, diagnosing, improving and validating AI models will help to mitigate the risks and dangers inherent in these types of systems,” Sikka added.

Microsoft’s new Azure AI service will be integrated into the Azure OpenAI Service and will help programmers develop safer online platforms and communities by employing models specifically created to recognize inappropriate content within images and text.

The models would flag the inappropriate content and assign a severity score, guiding human moderators to determine what content requires urgent intervention.

Furthermore, Bird explained that the Azure AI Content Safety’s filters can be adjusted for context, as the system can also be used in non-AI systems, like gaming platforms that require context to make inferences in data.

The responsible development of AI has even reached the Biden administration. Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and other AI company CEOs held a two-hour meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss AI regulations at the beginning of this month, and an AI Bill of Rights is in the works.

Besides Azure solutions, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Sharepoint, Power BI development Vietnam that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

ZDNet

Mobile devices are great for a quick document or project check-in when employees are away from their PCs. When it comes to Microsoft Power BI, end users often need access to dashboards from outside the office — whether that’s in a meeting, at lunch with a coworker, visiting a client site or catching up on work at home.

Fortunately, Power BI designers can design and optimize dashboards for mobile devices, saving end users a lot of frustration by giving them up-to-date access to information wherever they are.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to use the mobile layout feature to design a Power BI dashboard for mobile devices. The design works with all mobile sizes and shapes that rely on iOS, Windows and Android mobile operating systems.

For this demonstration, I’m using Microsoft Power BI desktop on a Windows 10 64-bit system, but you can also use Power BI service. If you’re interested in following along during this tutorial, you can download the demonstration .pbix file, Adventure Works Sales, from GitHub. Once downloaded, double-click the .pbix file to open it in Power BI development Vietnam; alternatively, you can use a .pbix file of your own.

How to prepare the dashboard in Power BI

Thanks to Power BI’s built-in features, configuring a dashboard for mobile devices is fairly straightforward. Before we get to that, however, we need visuals. Let’s create a quick report.

Figure A shows a simple set of reports that you can quickly create. To create the column chart, do the following:

Click Clustered Column Chart in the Visualizations pane.

In the Fields pane, expand the Products table and check the Category field.

Expand the Sales table and check the Sales Amount and Total Product Cost fields.

Figure A

To create the profit card, do the following:

Click the Card visual in the Visualizations pane.

In the Fields pane, check Profit Amount Measure in the Sales table. If you’re not working with the downloadable demonstration file, you can leave the card blank.

Create a second card and check % Profit Amount measure in the Sales table or leave it blank. The content isn’t that important. Configuring it all to fit on a mobile device is our focus.

For a quick comparison, let’s publish the report as you normally would with these steps:

Click the File menu.

Choose Publish from the left pane and then Publish to Power BI in the right pane.

Save changes if prompted.

Choose a destination, such as My Workspace, and click OK. Make sure this is a public site within your organization or one that end users can access.

Click the resulting link to see the published report shown in Figure B.

Figure B

Click the link to see this report.

As a Power BI designer, there are formats you might want to apply to make all three visuals look better, but for our purposes, this isn’t necessary. Now that you’ve seen the published report, let’s reconfigure it to display on a mobile device.

How to use mobile layout view to publish to a mobile device

The good news is that Power BI does all the work for you when designing reports and dashboards for mobile. To illustrate, let’s return to Power BI. Web view is the default, so take the following steps to add a mobile layout:

Click the View menu.

Click Mobile Layout and click Continue for the information Phone Version prompt if displayed.

Double-click the visuals to the right to add them to the mobile frame.

Resize and rearrange until you’re satisfied (Figure C).

Figure C

Arrange visuals in the mobile frame.

Click the Selection tab.

In the right pane, click Tab Order in the Selection pane; they might not be in the order you expect.

Rearrange the tab order by clicking the up and down arrows (Figure D).

Figure D

You might need to change the tab order.

At this point, we have a reasonable dashboard for mobiles. If you’re worried about the original web configuration, don’t be concerned — you won’t lose it. The web dashboard will offer two views: web and phone. You can access the phone layout using the web layout from the Edit menu.

We didn’t do much to our phone view in order to keep things simple, but you can arrange the visuals in any order, resize and so on. If you don’t want all the visuals in mobile view, don’t add them. You have a great deal of flexibility when designing and formatting this optimized view.

We optimized only page one of the report. Make sure to follow this same process with all pages you want to make viewable on mobile.

Now we’re ready to view the dashboard view on a mobile device.

How to view a Power BI dashboard on a mobile device

To see the new mobile view, republish the report using the instructions above. It doesn’t matter what view you’re in when you do so. When asked to replace the existing dashboard, click Replace.

On your mobile device, use your favorite online app store to download and install the Microsoft Power BI app if you don’t already have it. It only takes about a minute, and your store should know to download the right version. If prompted, be sure to denote whether you’re using an Android, iOS or Windows Phone, though that shouldn’t be necessary.

On your mobile device, do the following:

Open Power BI (Figure E).

Figure E

Click the Power BI icon to open the app.

Find the report (Figure F) and press on it to open it.

Figure F

Find the report and press to open it.

Figure G shows the resulting dashboard on an Android phone. At this point in time, you can interact with the dashboard as you normally would with the web layout.

It isn’t perfect yet, but you still have the option to return to Power BI Desktop or service to make changes. If you choose to go back and make additional changes, be sure to republish to commit those changes to the mobile version dashboards.

Figure G

Display the dashboard on our mobile device.

The link to the published dashboard, in this case, is irrelevant. If you send that to someone, they will open Power BI in designer view, which isn’t what you want. Instead, make sure you share the report to a public workspace or to a workspace that end users are authorized to access. If the report isn’t visible to end viewers, you might have to grant permission to the workspace or the report itself.

Besides Power BI, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Azure solutions, Sharepoint Intranet that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

What are the top Microsoft Azure Services that can advance businesses in 2023

The top Microsoft Azure solutions services are a boon to the world. Microsoft Azure is a platform for cloud computing and an online interface that you may use to access and administer Microsoft‘s cloud resources and services. These Microsoft azure services may keep and modify your data in accordance with your demands. Much later than its main competition, AWS, it made its debut on February 1, 2010. Azure supports a wide range of programming languages, including Java, Node Js, and C#.

Azure disperses the largest number of data centres for any cloud platform, 42 Azure data centres in total. There are Microsoft Azure Services that businesses should use.

Azure Data Factory

Azure Data Factory ingests data from several sources to automate data transmission and movement in a cloud-based workflow. Azure Data Factory uses a variety of Azure services for its computational needs, including Azure Machine Learning, Azure HDInsight Hadoop, and Azure Data Lake Analytics.

Azure Data Lake can be thought of as a sizable original data repository for big data analytics.

Business analytics (BI) apps can publish output data from Azure Data Factory on Azure Data Lake for analytics and visualisation. Given that it does not store any data but instead lets you track data movement and create a data-driven workflow, Azure Data Factory deserves to be mentioned among the best Azure services.

Azure Function

Azure Functions are used by developers to connect to messaging platforms or data sources and respond to events. The most advantageous feature of Azure Function is its compute-on-demand capability, which allows you to only pay for the services you really use.

Azure Function is utilized in production environments and is extremely dependable. Decoupling, sharing, and reusability can all be accomplished with it.

DevOps

Software as a service (SaaS) platform for DevOps are required to create and deliver software as soon as you begin utilising Microsoft Azure services. It can assist organize a DevOps toolchain and provides simple integration features with well-known industry products. Through monitoring, scheduling, and collaboration with other teams, DevOps services demonstrate the tools’ adaptability.

Virtual Machine

An image, a file that may function like a real computer, is what is commonly referred to as a virtual machine. In its Compute category, Microsoft Azure allows the inclusion of virtual machines, enabling the rapid installation of Windows or Linux operating systems on a physical computer. The virtual machine remains isolated from the rest of the computer, making it the ideal location for testing beta software, gaining access to virus-infected files, making system backups, and running programmers that weren’t designed to function on the specific operating system.

Azure Backup

Human mistake is an unfortunate fact, but Azure Backup enables basic data protection measures from the Azure Web app services to keep your data safe from ransomware or any other form of loss. SQL workloads and virtual machine data can both be backed up for a relatively low price with this method.

In addition to Azure Backup, tools like Windows VSS Snapshot and Linux freeze might be useful for maintaining data consistency. Azure’s backup system promotes more effective task management and project execution.

Global scale with high availability

You can scale up or down using Azure either manually or automatically. Your apps can be hosted anywhere in Microsoft’s extensive network of datacenters, and the App Service SLA guarantees high availability. Azure makes possible a comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery strategy with built-in security, as well as a flexible high-performing architecture.

Connections to SaaS platforms and on-premises data –

The ability to select from more than 50 connectors for business systems (like SAP), SaaS services (like Salesforce), and internet services is one of Azure’s greatest advantages (such as Facebook). Utilize Azure Virtual Networks and Hybrid Connections to access on-premises data.

Managed Production Environment

The Azure App Service automatically patches and maintains the OS and Language framework for you. Spend your time creating excellent apps and let Azure handle platform maintenance. Both internal Azure support staff who oversee the production network and external customers who use their own Azure applications are users of the Azure production network.

Containerization and Docer

Azure lets you Dockerize your programmer and use App Service to host a unique Windows or Linux container. Use Docker Compose to run multi-container applications. Directly transfer your Docker expertise to App Service. An application’s code and all the libraries and files it requires to function on any infrastructure is packaged together as part of the software deployment process known as containerization.

Traditionally, installing the correct version of an application for your computer’s operating system was required in order to use it.

API and Mobile Features

A hybrid, multi cloud management tool for managing APIs in all contexts is called API Management. The full API lifetime is provided by the platform-as-a-service known as API Management.

Azure’s API Apps are a fully managed platform as a service. It offers a comprehensive selection for web APIs to be hosted in the cloud and is included under the Azure App Service area, as client devices, such as PCs, mobile phones, tablets, etc., diversify.

Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud both offer cloud solutions. This guide outlines the differences between the platforms and includes tips for your evaluation.

Looking to move data around in the cloud? Moving massive amounts of data has become a backbone of business. It might involve switching from one cloud to another, performing continuous on-premises data migration, or continuously ingesting data from a social feed without dedicated servers. Cloud migration can be a one-time or continuous process.

Infrastructure as a service or platform as a service can both be good starting points, but which service should an organization use? Two of the largest, Microsoft Azure solutions and Google Cloud, offer a lot of options.

What is Google Cloud?

Google bills their Google Cloud migration services as a streamlined but flexible way to move data and apps to the cloud. Their variety of migration and modernization options include automated services, fully-managed databases, and options for Oracle workloads and Microsoft SQL Server deployments. Their Cloud Foundation Toolkit is built to guide organizations through the process of migrating applications. Microsoft and Google also have partnerships in this area, including Google’s tools for modernizing Windows and Microsoft workloads.

What is Microsoft Azure?

Microsoft Azure cloud services provide cloud environments across on-premises, multi-cloud or hybrid formats. The tech giant bills it as a chance to “build on your own terms,” with a wide variety of services and features. They also emphasize security, compliance coverage, the client having total ownership of the data and artificial intelligence. Microsoft claims to offer the only cloud platform to run on hyperscale relational databases and provide a speedy NoSQL database with open APIs at any scale.

Head-to-head comparison: Google Cloud vs. Microsoft Azure

SSH-based machine access

One major difference between the two services comes in depending on the operating system. Naturally, Azure plays well with Windows, as does Google Cloud, but Google Cloud’s SSH-based machine access can be especially useful for Linux projects.

Range and availability

Geographically, Azure is available in a broader range of regions across the world. In terms of edge deployments, Google offers Direct Peering, while Azure does not. This service allows a business network to plug directly into Google’s edge network. Both companies have very good (99%) uptime.

AI and ML

Both also offer artificial intelligence and machine learning services. Both have a wide range of speech-to-text, DevOps and other applications for AI/ML.

Security

Both Google Cloud and Azure are rigorously secured. Microsoft has proven compliance with privacy regulations across 50 specific global regions. Google Cloud’s security meets compliance across the globe as well, meeting many ISO standards, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA and more, all of which Azure also covers.

Both companies offer bug bounties for security researchers, drawing from both the independent security researcher community and their own top-tier security teams.

Choosing between Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure

Let’s dig into database migration in particular. Google Cloud offers good database migration options, with its database migration service offering a clear pathway to Cloud SQL and PostgreSQL. SQL Server and Oracle migrations are currently available in preview. Depending on the service tier, Google Cloud offers serverless migrations that reduce or eliminate downtime, replicating data continuously. This also means the destination Cloud SQL instance or AlloyDB cluster can be used as a stand-alone primary instance.

Organizations can move VM-based self-hosted databases to Google Cloud in order to take their hands off managing the infrastructure, instead relying on Google’s support, performance and disaster recovery capabilities. Each project can involve up to 2,000 connection profiles and 1,000 migration jobs.

Microsoft Azure Migrate has similarly streamlined capabilities, with a single dashboard for the whole process of migrating databases, applications, mainframes or virtual machines. This further separates into a variety of PaaS services such as Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Spring Apps, Azure Cosmos DB and others. Azure is optimized for SAP workflows, making it easier to combine SAP and non-SAP data.

Microsoft also emphasizes attention to sustainability, with “carbon intelligent” considerations including efforts toward renewable energy, forest preservation and more. Its Azure Arc offering extends management and services to hybrid, multicloud and edge environments.

Azure Migrate runs on a free trial followed by a pay-as-you-go subscription.

Other comparisons may come down to the granular needs of your organization, such as the amount of memory and storage disks you need, physical location and how you want to pay. For more, compare the services to IBM Cloud or AWS Cloud, and read our overview of data migration.

Besides Azure, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Power BI development Vietnam, Sharepoint that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

Microsoft this week announced Azure Active Directory enhancements for organizations that likely will better address some security and compliance issues.

The enhancements include a new Multifactor Authentication Server Migration Utility, an Azure AD Kerberos preview for Azure Files users, plus the ending of unmanaged accounts for users of the Azure AD B2B service.

MFA Server Migration Utility

Microsoft has released a new Multifactor Authentication Server Migration Utility, which aims to help organizations shift from using the on-premises MFA Server to using the Azure MFA service.

The utility is an included tool when downloading Azure MFA bits. The MFA Server Migration Utility is said to not require reregistration by end users after making a shift to the Azure MFA service. It allows IT pros to test things in staged rollouts before fully implementing the changes.

“Since no changes to your tenant or federation settings are required, carrying out testing is extremely low risk and can be done with as many or as few users as you wish,” stated Alex Weinert, director of identity security at Microsoft, in the announcement.

While Microsoft’s announcement didn’t mention it specifically, this utility will help organizations get rid of their Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) deployments on premises, which have lately made the news in a bad way as being targeted by nation-state attackers. When using the Azure MFA service, the authentications happen in Microsoft’s cloud. The MFA service seen as easier to secure than ADFS used on premises.

In April, Microsoft had announced other Azure AD enhancements aimed at helping organizations move away from ADFS.

Azure Files and Kerberos Security Preview

Microsoft also this week announced that Azure Files is now integrated with Azure AD Kerberos for use when organizations are using a “hybrid” (cloud plus on-premises) approach to controlling identity and access management.

This Azure Files integration with the “new” Azure AD Kerberos feature, available at the preview stage, will enable Azure Files users to not have to use on-premises Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) or Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure ADDS) for authentications. Azure AD Kerberos allows organizations to dispense with some infrastructure requirements that are involved with those two approaches.

Here’s Microsoft’s explanation to that effect:

Azure AD Kerberos allows Azure AD to issue Kerberos service tickets over HTTPS for service applications in Azure AD. This removes the need to setup and manage another domain service, while also removing the line-of-sight requirement to the domain controller when authenticating with Azure Files. For this experience, the clients connecting to Azure Files need to be Azure AD-joined clients (or hybrid Azure AD-joined), and the user identities must be hybrid identities, managed in Active Directory.

The Azure AD Kerberos preview for Azure Files was said to be an expansion based on similar improvements in FSLogix profiles support. FSLogix is Microsoft’s solution that’s used to maintain user profiles in virtual desktop infrastructure scenarios.

Azure AD B2B and Unmanaged Accounts

Microsoft also this week indicated that it’s ending the user option to use “unmanaged accounts” when accessing resources via Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory B2B (“Business to Business”) sharing service.

These unmanaged accounts could get created using a capability that enabled “self-service sign-up for email-verified users,” Microsoft explained. It was a quick way for Azure AD B2B-invited guests to access resources, but it apparently became a compliance nightmare.

Microsoft didn’t use the word, “nightmare,” but it did acknowledge the problems created by these self-service sign-ups:

This [self-service sign-ups] allows invited guest users to create Azure AD accounts by validating ownership of their work email address when their domain is not verified in Azure AD. However, this sometimes means that users would create accounts in a tenant not managed by the IT department of their organization. This has several unintended consequences such as challenges with user lifecycle management, support costs due to password reset issues and information disclosure between users in the Azure Portal.

Microsoft announced the end of these unmanaged accounts on Sept. 2, 2022, so presumably they can’t now be created. There is an alternative “invitation redemption flow,” as described in this Microsoft document, which offers other ways for guest users to verify their identities. These other sign-up options include using a federation identity provider, Google federation, a personal Microsoft account or the “one-time passcode” approach, which sends a link to access resources via e-mail invitations.

The announcement noted that “accounts that have previously been invited and redeemed with unmanaged Azure AD accounts will continue to work.” However, it also listed a bunch of tools for organizations to locate such accounts, which can then be reset to use the other sign-up options.

Besides Azure solutions, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Power BI development Vietnam, Sharepoint that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

Microsoft Azure, the software giant’s public cloud business, continues to generate outsized growth, gradually eating into the big market share edge held by market leader Amazon Web Services. And at least one Wall Street analyst thinks his peers are under-estimating Azure’s potential.

In a 67-page research report published on Thursday, Credit Suisse analyst Phil Winslow laid out in detail why he thinks Microsoft (ticker: MSFT) can grow Azure “faster and bigger” than what Wall Street expects. Winslow sees a shift unfolding in the way businesses are using the cloud that plays to Microsoft’s strengths.

In the March quarter, AWS had revenue of $18.4 billion, up 37% from a year ago, while Microsoft had $11.3 billion in revenue, up 46%. Amazon.com (AMZN) is bigger, but Azure is growing faster. Winslow thinks the trend will continue.

Following the Great Recession more than a decade ago, the analyst noted, the focus among IT buyers was on shifting applications to the cloud, with the widespread adoption of subscription-based software-as-a-service models, often hosted on AWS

Now, Winslow said, companies are “moving forward on multi-year strategic cloud-first transformation,” a jargony way of saying they are making wholesale changes in the way they structure their IT infrastructure, not just shifting specific applications to the cloud.

He added that the pandemic “exposed the shortcomings” of relying on legacy on-premises applications and IT operations, strengthening the case for cloud computing. Winslow thinks overall public cloud spending will surpass on-premises IT spending by 2024, excluding PCs, tablets, printers and IT services.

The analyst believes Azure will disproportionately benefit from this shift, and will “continue to narrow the revenue gap” with AWS, while widening the gap ahead of Alphabet ’s (GOOGL) Google Cloud, the distant No. 3 player in terms of market share.

Winslow said he thinks Azure will “drive sustained growth for Microsoft and meaningful upside to consensus estimates.” His view is that enterprise customers that already have large investments in Microsoft technology in their own data centers are likely to choose Azure as a strategic cloud provider.

The Credit Suisse analyst conceded that Wall Street already is “largely positive” about the outlook for Microsoft, but contends that the full-year impact of Azure’s growth opportunity is not properly reflected in Wall Street models. He noted that Azure has been faster than AWS to reach major revenue run-rate milestones —faster to $500 million, to $1 billion, to $5 billion, and so on. But he said that consensus forecasts from here — with Azure now on an estimated $10.5 billion run-rate — look overly conservative.

Wall Street, he said, sees Azure’s growth rate gradually slowing from the 46% rate reported in the March quarter, to under 30% by the fiscal fourth quarter ending in June 2025. But Winslow sees much more robust growth, with a compounded rate of nearly 41% through 2025.

Winslow’s bullish view on Azure solutions supports his thesis that Microsoft can post mid-to-high teens revenue growth for at least the next five years, with earnings and free cash flow per share growing in the high-teens to 20% range, aided by increasing scale and continued share repurchases.

Concluded Winslow: “We believe these levels of sustained growth and profitability are still not properly reflected in consensus estimates or valuation.”

Besides Azure, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Power BI development Vietnam, Sharepoint that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

Microsoft offers an array of options for data analytics in its cloud that are meant to operate together as a full analytics stack. Here is an overview of the core services and where each fits.

If you can’t make sense of your business data, you’re effectively flying blind. Insights hidden in your data are essential for optimizing business operations, finetuning your customer experience, and developing new products — or new lines of business, like predictive maintenance. Analytics is the means for discovering those insights, and doing it well requires the right tools for ingesting and preparing data, enriching and tagging it, building and sharing reports, and managing and protecting your data and insights. And as businesses contend with increasingly large amounts of data, the cloud is fast becoming the logical place where analytics work gets done.

For many enterprises, Microsoft Azure has become a central hub for analytics. Taking the broadest possible interpretation of data analytics, Azure solutions offers more than a dozen services — and that’s before you include Power BI, with its AI-powered analysis and new datamart option, or governance-oriented approaches such as Microsoft Purview. Leaving aside more specialized options such as ingesting telemetry, sharing data externally, or building machine learning models to deliver specific analyses, there are still enough Azure analytics services that you might wonder which one is best suited for any given job.

The truth is, Microsoft aims to provide CIOs a full stack of analytics services on Azure designed to work together, rather than a piecemeal approach, says Amir Netz, CTO of Microsoft Analytics. It is geared toward IT chiefs who want to be chief data officers, not chief integration officers, he suggests.

Although there is overlap between the various services, Netz explains that Azure’s analytics services broadly correspond to the layers an organization would build in creating an analytics architecture framework, “from creating the data lake and storing the data, processing the data in the lake and doing the data engineering, the ability to build data warehouses on top of that, to run machine learning algorithms, to do data science, to serve the data to business users,” he says.

The recent announcement of the Microsoft Intelligent Data Platform makes that more obvious, though analytics is only one part of that new brand.

Here we take a look at Microsoft Azure’s essential analytics services, what they are used for, and how they come together to make a comprehensive stack for your analytics strategy in the cloud.

1. Azure Analysis Services

If you’re used to using SQL Server Analysis Services for business intelligence, Analysis Services offers that enterprise-grade analytics engine as a cloud service that you can also connect to Power BI. But the features in Power BI Premium are now more powerful than the functionality in Azure Analysis Services, so while the service isn’t going away, Microsoft will offer an automated migration tool in the second half of this year for customers who want to move their data models into Power BI instead.

2. Azure Data Factory

Data Factory is a service for code-free data movement and data transformation pipelines to make it easier to integrate data from various sources into data warehouses: Think ETL (extract, transform, load) and ELT (extract, load, transform) as a service with built-in connectors, but with the emphasis on transforming and enriching data rather than just moving it into the right place (although you can also use it to move data into the cloud). Data Factory includes features such as “code by example” to help users build queries but also has options to use languages such as Python, Java, and .NET with Git and CI/CD support, making it particularly useful for migrating SQL Server Integration Services to Azure.

3. Azure Data Explorer

Data Explorer is a big data analytics platform that you can use, as the name suggests, for exploring data using KQL, also known as the Kusto Query Language, from the codename for the project which may or may not be a reference to exploring your ocean of data as if you were Jacques Cousteau. Azure Data Explorer is used to store and query data in services such as Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Sentinel, and Log Analytics in Azure Monitor.

4. Azure Data Lake Analytics

Data warehouses are designed for questions you already know you want to ask about your data, again and again. Data lakes, on the other hand, enable you to store structured and unstructured data to explore with new questions that you haven’t asked before. Azure Data Lake Analytics helps you extract, clean, and prepare data from Azure Data Lake using R, Python, .NET, or U-SQL (which combines SQL and C#) to write queries, with key technologies from Azure Cognitive Services included as functions for processing text, speech, and images using machine learning. This is a serverless analytics job service that can handle petabyte scale data transformation, so you pay for the job rather than needing to manage infrastructure.

5. Azure Synapse Analytics

If you want to get away from building your own analytics framework that multiple teams in your organization will then use to extract data from data lakes and build data warehouses that business users have to access and work with separately, Synapse Analytics gives you the capabilities of cloud data warehouse and data lake services but lets you run your preferred analytic engine — whether that’s SQL or Spark — over all your data, structured and unstructured, without waiting for ETL processes or worrying about where the data is stored or how to connect to it. Synapse Analytics data flows are powered by Azure Data Factory, and if you use Cosmos DB, transactions in your operational database will be mirrored and available for analytics seconds after they’re recorded, so you can explore big data and relational data together. If the questions are useful enough to ask again and again, you can formalize them with traditional analytics techniques.

6. Azure Databricks

If you want to spin up Spark clusters on demand for transforming, cleaning, and enriching your data, Azure Databricks is an Apache Spark-based big data analytics service optimised for Azure with data adapters for various data types and an interactive workspace for building Spark dataflows. You can work in Python, Scala, R, Java, or SQL, but it’s particularly suitable for building AI systems and you can use common data science frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and sci-kit learn, plus there’s integration with Azure Machine Learning.

7. Datamarts in Power BI

Think of datamarts as relational databases designed to do analytics at the business unit level rather than the enterprise data warehouse level, frequently driven by business users who need to collect data from multiple sources and integrate it together in a lightweight way. They don’t have the skills or the budget to provision a full relational data warehouse in the Azure portal, they don’t need the petabyte scale or even terabytes of data and they’re currently using technologies such as SharePoint lists or Excel for this, making it an underserved market with less governance than CIOs might prefer.

Datamarts in Power BI Premium are a fully managed, self-service, no-code option for up to 100GB of data with workloads automatically optimised for performance and a user interface that looks like Power Query (although advanced users can write DAX or SQL queries). Datamart discovers relationships between tables and generates the dataset, combining the semantic model of Power BI with the relational database model.

“You don’t need to know anything about how to be a DBA. We don’t ask you about partitioning scheme, or how to create an index,” Netz explains. “You don’t need to know how to write SQL and to import data or to query. Everything is visual. Everything is easy to use. Everything is designed for the user who knows how to create Power BI reports.”

Bonus: Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Time Series Insights

There are new ways to use analytics for which the cloud is particularly well-suited. Traditional analytics focuses on data in databases, but with sensors and IoT devices, you have transient, time-sensitive data that you want to process and take action on almost in real-time. The same is true for the clickstream form web and mobile apps. Azure Stream Analytics enables you to look at the data as it streams in and process it immediately to discover whether you want to take action. This processing wants to be done close to where the data is ingested, so you’d use Event Hubs to collect the data and pass it to Stream Analytics. You can also aggregate data to reduce the amount being stored and query it later to analyze trends or to forecast demand so that you’re storing, say, a moving average of the last second rather than recording the temperature every millisecond.

If you don’t want to build your own stack for that kind of analytics: Azure Time Series Insights is an end-to-end platform that takes data from IoT devices for you to monitor, analyze, visualize, and act on. You can use it to spot trends, highlight anomalies, and dig into root causes, and because Azure offers a full stack of analytics services, you can feed that data into other services such as Azure Databricks or use it to make models with Azure Machine Learning. But the market is moving away from single-purpose services and Time Series Insights is being deprecated in favour of Azure Data Explorer.

Besides Azure, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Power BI development Vietnam, Sharepoint that can help you improve your enterprise performance.

In the past, businesses collected and integrated data using tools that they set up and managed themselves. Today organizations can build data integration pipelines — hosted, fully managed data integration services, including Azure Data Factory.

Azure Data Factory collects and integrates data from nearly 100 discrete sources without users having to install and manage data integration software.

For perspective on whether Azure Data Factory is right for your workloads, review its main benefits compared to more traditional tools and other hosted data integration services.

Azure Data Factory benefits

Azure Data Factory is a good option if you have a multi-cloud architecture. With it, you can integrate and centralize data stored across various clouds. Also, it’s a good choice if your various applications write user data to different locations. For example, some data may go to relational databases and others to object storage in the cloud. You will need to integrate those sources and extract user information from them.

While it isn’t the only offering that can handle use cases like these, Azure Data Factory does have some standout benefits compared to other available data integration tools.

No-code data workflows

You can configure Azure Data Factory to collect and integrate data from most mainstream data sources — such as databases, proprietary cloud storage services and file systems — without having to write a single line of code. This makes Azure Data Factory a good fit for businesses that want to use citizen-integrators who aren’t coders. These users can build data integration workflows without having to learn special skills.

Some other data integration services offer similar code-free abilities. Users can configure Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), a more traditional tool, to do basic integration without needing to do much coding. However, Azure Data Factory places a key focus on being accessible to non-technical users, which tools like SSIS do not.

Easy SSIS migration

For companies accustomed to using SSIS, one of the strongest selling points of Azure Data Factory is that they can lift and shift SSIS data pipelines to Azure Data Factory with minimal effort. Azure Data Factory can natively execute SSIS packages within its Integration Runtime capabilities. It also provides a migration wizard to move SSIS workloads fully into Azure solutions.

SSIS compatibility is supported on other data integration services — such as AWS Glue, the Amazon equivalent to Azure Data Factory, which lets you convert SSIS packages. Since Microsoft develops both Azure Data Factory and SSIS, it provides the smoothest transition from on-premises data integration to cloud data integration. Without similar compatibility, the migration process is generally more complicated on other platforms.

Large collection of data collectors

Azure Data Factory currently offers nearly 100 prebuilt data connectors to import data from external sources. A large amount of Azure Data Factory’s online data collectors can be set up instantly.

This compares favorably to most other cloud-based data integration services. For example, as of May 2022, the AWS Marketplace listed 73 collectors for Glue. Typically, other on-premises offerings can’t install prebuilt connectors as easily.

Built-in monitoring and alerting

Azure Data Factory offers built-in monitoring visualization. These native visibility features mean you can easily keep track of the status of data integration operations. On top of this, it helps the user be proactive about identifying and reacting to problems, such as a failed data transformation, that could disrupt workflows. You can also set up alerts to warn about such failed operations.

Consumption-based pricing

Unlike on-premises data integration tools, which typically require a large upfront investment, Azure Data Factory offers pay-as-you-go pricing.

Azure Data Factory limitations

Alongside Azure Data Factory’s benefits, it’s important to consider its limitations.

Custom data collectors

While you can create data pipelines based on a variety of common sources — including mainstream databases and cloud storage services — without writing code in Azure Data Factory, you’ll need to write custom code to configure nonstandard data sources. This may prove challenging if, for example, you rely on proprietary databases that can’t integrate with Azure Data Factory with the prebuilt connectors.

Focus on Azure

Azure Data Factory supports some data sources hosted outside of Azure, but it’s designed first and foremost for building integration pipelines that connect to Azure or other Microsoft resource types. This is a downside if you have a multi-cloud strategy that runs most of your workloads outside Azure. In that case, you may be better served by a third-party offering such as Apache Airflow that’s not tied to specific vendors or platforms.

Long-term expense

While consumption-based pricing is attractive in some ways, its long-term total cost of ownership may be higher than that of on-premises options. If you plan to run data integration services for years, you may save money by hosting it on your own infrastructure.

Besides Azure, Microsoft also have other solutions such as Microsoft 365, Power BI development Vietnam, Sharepoint that can help you improve your enterprise performance.
